S4 No Service When Making Calls
Problem: The phone is an AT&T phone that is used with straight talk. I normally have excellent service, however all day yesterday and continuing this morning, every time I try to make a call my service goes from 2-3 bars of 4g LTE to just a circle with a line through it indicating that I have zero signal. It’s very frustrating I can check my facebook, watch youtube videos, and send and receive texts, but the second I try to place a call I have no service. I did spill a small out of cleaning liquid on my phone three days ago but I let my phone sit in dry rice overnight the same day it happened and didn’t experience any odd issues with my phone until yesterday. My bill is paid and not even due until the 15th.
Solution: The first thing you need to do is to verify if this problem is caused by a network issue. Try making a call in various areas (your house, shopping mall, grocery store) that are far apart from each other. This way there’s a chance that you will be connected to different cellular towers. See if the issue occurs when you are in different areas or if the issue only occurs in one particular area. If you only experience the issue in one particular area then it may be a network related problem. You can also verify if a network issue exists by contacting your service provider.
Once you have eliminated the network as the possible cause of the problem it is time to check your phone. The first thing you need to do is to restart your phone. This resets your connection to the network and usually resolves this type of problem.
If after the restart you are still experiencing the same problem then the next step is to check if temporary data stored in your phone is causing the problem. To check if this is the case you need to wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode. Once this is done restart your phone normally then try making a call.
Another factor that could cause this problem is a third party app installed in your phone. To check if this is the case I suggest you start your phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run while the apps you downloaded are disabled. Try to make a call and observe if the issue still persists. If it doesn’t then an app is most likely causing this problem. Find out what app this is and uninstal it. If however you still experience the same problem even in Safe Mode then I suggest you backup your phone data and do a factory reset as this problem may be caused by a corrupt phone software.
S4 No Call Notification
Problem: incoming calls are not ringing or vibrating … never had problem before. No new apps installed. Volume is set to max for ringtone as well as vibration and both work fine in Settings mode when tested. Phone icon indicates number of calls as does the screen notification as to who called. Phone log properly reflects incoming calls and if a voice message is left it is properly recorded. Basic issue is no incoming call ringtone sounds or vibration so calls are missed. Thanks for any suggestions for correcting this problem.
Solution: You should start the troubleshooting by starting your phone in Safe Mode. Once in this mode call your phone using another device or have someone call you. Check if the notifications such as sound or vibration now works. If they work then the problem may be caused by an app you installed in your phone. Sometimes an app can have a conflict with the phone system and cause this problem. Find out what app is causing the issue and uninstall it.
If the problem still occurs even in Safe Mode then the next thing to do is to check if some form of corrupt data is causing this problem. To do this you need to wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode. Once this is done restart your phone normally then check if the issue persists.
Finally, if the above troubleshooting steps fail I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
S4 Can’t Hear Call After Using Bluetooth and Speaker
Problem: When I talk between Bluetooth and speaker even just one time, the next call I get or try to make goes through but I can’t hear anything on my end nor can the party I’m calling hear anything. The only fix I’ve been able to find, is resetting the phone. It’s a real pain in the butt!
Solution: This problem is most likely caused by some form of corrupt data. Try wiping the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode and check if this fixes the problem. if it doesn’t then I suggest you start your phone in Safe Mode then check if the problem occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then it’s most likely caused by an app you installed in your phone. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
If the above troubleshooting steps fail to resolve the problem then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
S4 Delayed Ring During Calls
Problem: Hello, My Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-i9505 starts ringing only when the caller has heard 7 rings! In safe mode, the phone rings straight away. One of the apps I have installed is causing problems but I have too many apps and it’s not doable to remove them one at the time. Have you ever heard of this issue? Perhaps you know which app I need to check? Thanks a lot!
Solution: Unfortunately I am not aware of any app that can cause this problem. Since you mentioned that the problem disappears when your phone is in Safe Mode then it is really most likely caused by an app. You can start uninstalling the last app that you installed prior to this issue happening. If you can’t find the app then one other solution is to backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
S4 No Sound When On Bluetooth Calls
Problem: Bluetooth. Sometimes with 1st use. Sometimes occurs after 1st use. I can hear the connection ring. After ring stops I can not hear the person answer and the person I’m calling can not hear me. The person I am calling tells me later that it is just silence when they answer. I can not use the phone after this until I completely shut down with bluetooth off and turn back on. A restart does not correct the problem where I can use the phone at all. Someone I know has told me they have a similar problem.
Solution: Are you using a Bluetooth headphone when making calls? If you are then try using a different Bluetooth headphone as the one you are using may be causing the problem.
You should also try making a call without using a Bluetooth device and check if the calls can be heard. If the problem does not occur then the issue may be with the Bluetooth device you are using. If however the problem occurs even when not using a Bluetooth device then there are various factors to consider that may be causing this problem.
One factor is the corrupt temporary data. To check if this is causing the problem you need to wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
Another factor to consider is a third party app. To check if this is the case just start your phone in Safe Mode then check if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then you need to find out the app causing the problem and uninstall it.
One last factor that can cause this problem is the phone system software itself. If this is the case then I suggest you backup your phone data and do a factory reset.
S4 Call Keep Dropping
Problem: Calls keep dropping out for no reason. No consistency with numbers called or whether I make or receive the call. Thanks in advance.
Solution: Try to check first if this is a network related problem by making a call in various areas that are located far from each other. This way you can be assured that your phone will be using different cellular towers when making a call. If you notice the problem occurring in only one particular area then it may be a network related issue. I suggest you contact your service provider regarding this matter.
If the problem occurs wherever you are then it’s time to troubleshoot the phone. The first thing you need to do is to restart your device. This resets your phone connection to the network and has been known to work in cases such as this.
If you still experience the same problem then proceed with wiping the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode. Restart your phone normally then check if the problem still occurs. If the problem still occurs then try switching between the different network modes of your phone (LTE/GSM/WCDMA (auto connect), GSM/WCDMA (auto connect), GSM only or WCDMA only) and check which mode provides the best call quality.
One final troubleshooting step that you should consider is a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing this procedure.
