After update phone worked fine. Until i was watching YouTube and got a notification to charge my battery. It was on 5%.
I placed my phone on charged and went to bed. That morning i checked my phone it was off. i unplugged it from charger and tried to turn it on but didn’t come on. Took the battery out and tried again; still nothing.
My girl friend has a S4 also that she doesn’t use cause she bought an S6 so I charged her battery and tried putting it in my phone to try to turned it on — nothing.
Both my battery and hers turn on her phone but not mine. Tried a few methods i saw on the site it didn’t work either. Removed the SD card, tried holding down the power button for 10 seconds. Phone wont boot into safe mode or recovery mode. I can’t even get to factory reset. Is there another method i can use into reviving my dead S4. — Anton
Solution: Hi Anton. If the cause of the problem is software in nature, you should still be able to boot the phone in download mode. Also known as Odin mode, this special Android environment allows you to reflash a stock OS or custom ROM to your S4 so you can boot it up again. To do that, just follow these steps:
- Power off the phone.
- Press and hold Volume Down, Home, and Power buttons at the same time.
- Release the buttons once the Warning screen comes up.
- Your S4 should now show the green Android screen that displays a line that says “Downloading…Do not turn off target”.
If you can successfully boot your phone in Odin, there must be an operating system glitch that prevents it from booting normally. Since you will be unable to use the phone while in download mode, you either have to install a new ROM or flash the original/stock ROM to it.
You can use Google to find specific steps on how to flash a ROM to your S4.
Otherwise, the hardware must be dead for some reason. Seek the help of professionals to have the device checked.

This is a widespread issue.
This is most likely a software issue or a hardware issue (bad design or perhaps a problem with the QFE1100 Qualcomm chip).
This is not isolated to any specific carrier or market.
This is not caused by wifi being on or off.
This is not a case of bad APN settings.
This is not related to SIM cards.
This is not fixed by RMA’ing your phone and obtaining a replacement.”
“Although this issue has been reported across multiple threads here on the product forum, Google has yet to acknowledge this is an issue and work is underway to fix (patch) it. Sadly, none of the main Android News sites have featured it. If this were to happen, I’m sure we would begin seeing movement on this. This issue has been discussed since just after product launch and still nothing from Google. We are just shy of 3 months in the case of the first thread I linked to. Come on Google – 3 months!”

This is exactly what is happening on my Galaxy S4 and my mom’s Galaxy S3. I have called T-Mobile, Samsung is Useless & Google puts me right back to T-Mobile.
This is a real issue. if I try to charge the phone when I’m on the network it sucks the energy from the generic phone cord into the wall or into the portable charger & the cord is completely ruined. I have gone through over 20 cords.
We cannot even use Wi-Fi in our house where it’s free or we get the message that says Samsung Power Sharing Cable EP-SG900 is going to give all the power when we’re not even charging.
It’s really like Russian roulette is the phone going to work on data or Wi-Fi? What is it going to erase this time? It’s insane!
T-Mobile ALWAYS says factory reset. No! it says that won’t fix it.
Getting a live person at Samsung or Google would be a Christmas miracle & we need help now. I have pictures if they’ll help. If there’s any other fix besides 3G than we would like 2 have it.
We are completely updated in software. This issue is exactly what’s going on again. Hopefully you get this because my phone is burning up in my hand which isn’t good.

Solution: Hi Kyrie. It looks like you are raising two issues here:
- Wi-Fi turns off mobile connection when it’s on
- Samsung Power Sharing Cable popup
We can’t see the connection between these two issues and we haven’t heard of the first one yet. If the Wi-Fi problem cannot be rectified by wiping the phone clean via factory reset, we don’t know what will. If you have already tried to factory reset the phone before you contact us, the cause of the problem might be how the operating system was built, which means that a faulty programming is to blame. Unfortunately, that can only be fixed by the same team that created the firmware on your phone right now. If your S4 receives updates via wireless update from your carrier, this issue must be isolated to the firmware. If you haven’t done a factory reset yet, please do so to see the difference. For your benefit, here are the steps on how to do that:
- From the Home screen, tap the Menu key.
- Touch Settings and then Accounts tab.
- Under Backup options section, touch Backup and reset.
- Touch Factory data reset.
- Touch Reset device.
- Tap Delete all.
If nothing changes after a factory reset, you may have to consider flashing rooting and flashing a custom ROM to your device. Please refer to our suggestion for Anton above.

I was just wondering how do I update my phone. I have a Samsung Galaxy S4. My carrier is Straight Talk. My software says it is at a 4.3. When I hit the button to do an update it tells me that the latest update on my phone has been received. Obviously, it hasn’t and would like to update my phone. I contacted Straight talk and they told me to call Google and they have to do the update. I’m not sure how to contact Google but I will admit I am not tech savvy either. i was wondering if you could help me or give me advice as to what I should do about an update….

Solution: Hi Dana. Over-the-air updates or system update provided by wireless carriers depend on their own schedule and availability. If StraightTalk can’t give you a straight answer if your S4 can still receive an update (Android Lollipop) at this time, the answer is most probably negative. What you can do is to manually update the phone yourself. You can do so by using Google to look for the specific steps. Make sure to use the correct firmware (specific for your S4 model) during this process to avoid bricking your phone.
Keep in mind that manually installing a firmware is risky and does not always go as planned. Create a back up of your personal data (photos, videos, contacts, etc) before proceeding. Reflash your phone at your own risk!
Touchscreen not working properly. Recently the touchscreen has been going whacky. At first it was just little things like not being able to click on a certain thing. Now it has gotten to the point that i cannot text sometimes. I went to the service menu and did the touch selection and at first got every small square but after a factory reset i cannot complete the X and box, a certain horizontal section of the screen is out of whack. The strange thing is it is not this way all the time. I am writing this from the phone but just a minutes ago i was unable to text without using speak option. — Graham
Solution: Hi Graham. Has the phone been dropped or suffered any liquid damage? If yes, the best thing to do is to simply have it checked and repaired by a professional. If still under warranty, ask Samsung or your carrier for a replacement unit instead.
The result of the service menu test suggests some parts of the screen are no longer working. Even if the phone is not physically damaged, the screen might still have a hardware issue that can only be diagnosed via repair.

I haven’t downloaded any new app for a while, the phone started freezing (touch screen non responsive, no buttons functioning) + turning into black screen with no response 2 days ago.
It’s happening sometimes every few minutes, sometimes it doesn’t happen for hours.
I go to swype the lock screen and there’s no response, then it turns black and if i don’t touch it for a while, it will come back to life with no signs of it having happened.
I can also turn it off by taking the battery off and restating and it will restart. Sometimes it shuts down and restarts on it’s on and it take a lot longer to restart though. I have tried wiping cache and it didn’t work. I tried changing battery and it went a lot better for a half a day and it just started doing it again now, after a few hours of functioning. I thought it had resolved it, but not.
I’m wondering if I did a factory reset and then reinstalled everything with TWRP Ghost image if I would get to the same problem or if it could resolve it?
And if I did that, should i take a ghost image now and resume from that one or from the one I have of this past Sept?
I also have Titanium back up.
The thing is that this phone is customized to the top degree and if i was to do a factory reset and not use the TWRP image it would take me days to have it back to how it is now and may be all for nothing as it could start doing it again.
What do you recommend or suggest me doing?
I’m not very geeky, unfortunately, my ex-partner rooted this phone and put all those wonderful apps on it, so I just barely know how to do that.

Solution: Hi Valentina. We really can’t say for certain if a factory reset can effectively resolve the issues you are experiencing right now unless you try it. The thing with factory reset is that it’s a trial-and-error solution. You can only say it’s effective after it has, in fact, fixed the problem. We don’t know if it will any a difference afterwards.
Keep in mind that the symptoms you mentioned can also be caused by faulty third party apps that you may have installed or updated. We suggest that you boot in safe mode first. Here’s how to do that:
- Turn the device off completely.
- Press and hold the Power button.
- Once the Samsung Galaxy S4 logo appears on the screen, release the Power button.
- As soon as you release the Power button, press and hold the Volume Down key.
- Continue holding the Volume Down key until the phone has completed the reboot process.
- If you can read ‘Safe Mode‘ at the bottom left corner of the screen, release the Volume Down key. Otherwise, repeat the process until you can boot the phone to Safe Mode.
If the problem fails to occur while in safe mode, that’s an indication that one of the apps is the cause of the problem.
We still recommend that you do a factory reset though. If you worry about losing the current setup, simply use the backup feature of your custom TWRP recovery. This feature is also known as NANDroid backup.
